LANGLEY, B.C. – The Spartan Foundation’s 9th annual Complete Champions Corporate Reception, presented by Nicola Wealth Management, once again set a fundraising record for the event, as more than $420,000 was raised for Trinity Western Spartans student-athletes Nov. 17 at the Langley Events Centre – home of the Spartans.

The fundraising event featured Hollywood actor Neal McDonough, who has been in more than 100 movies and TV shows and is most famous for his roles in Band of Brothers and Suits. The afternoon reception surpassed last years’ total by nearly $100,000, after the 2016 event brought in a then-record $340,000.

“The Spartan Foundation is truly doing amazing things as they are helping to support a University that allows kids to believe in God and have faith in themselves,” McDonough said. “The Spartan Foundation is working to help create a winning environment. It’s not just about the championships the Spartans have won, which is incredible, but it’s because of what TWU is doing beyond that, which has clearly made this a special place to be for student-athletes.”

The corporate event, which is hosted by the Spartan Foundation, is entirely focused on raising funds for the Spartan Athletics program and the Complete Champion Approach, with the intention of impacting student-athlete lives.

“We are so encouraged that this corporate fundraising reception continues to grow and gain momentum each year to help the teams and athletes,” said Steve Scholz, Executive Director of the Spartan Foundation. “We feel extremely blessed by the support from our corporate sponsors, table sponsors and donors who contributed to our matching fund, as well as those who donated on the day of the event. It is exciting to invest and help student-athletes grow and develop today, because they will be our future leaders.

“We could not have raised this amount without the generous support of the corporate community and a special group of donors who established a matching fund for any day-of donations. A very special thanks to our Presenting sponsor: Nicola Wealth Management, our Diamond sponsors: GLC Solutions, Janzen Insurance and Customline Homes, our Gold sponsors: Alta West Capital, Avisar, Benchmark Homes, De Jager Volkenant & Company, Fastik, Loewen Kruse, PXL Crosslinked Foam, Trading Post Brewing, our Silver sponsors: Avantage, Howard Wealth Mgmt Group, Site Lines Architecture, TRG Group, Smart, Savvy + Associates, and our wine sponsor: Wayne Gretzky Okanagan.”
