SPARTANS BASKETBALL, VOLLEYBALL BACK ON HOME COURT THIS WEEKEND

LANGLEY, British Columbia – Trinity Western’s basketball and volleyball teams will both open their winter semester on home court, as all four teams return to Canada West league play this weekend at the Langley Events Centre. The Spartans basketball teams host Fraser Valley Thursday in the first of a home-and-home series with the Cascades, while the volleyball teams welcome Winnipeg to Langley for a two-match series Friday and Saturday.

The first contest of 2018 will feature a TWU women’s basketball team (8-2) looking to build upon its best-ever semester, which saw the Spartans enter the break with eight wins from their last nine games. The visiting Cascades come into the game with a 4-8 record.

Over the break, the Spartans women’s team earned a 77-56 exhibition win over Thompson Rivers.

Meanwhile, the TWU men’s basketball team (0-10) will take on the Cascades (4-8) in the final game of the night.

Thursday evening will also feature a high school girls’ basketball showcase, with MEI taking on Sullivan Heights at 4 p.m. (PT).

The Cascades and Spartans basketball teams will meet again Friday in Abbotsford, B.C.

On the volleyball court, the No. 1-ranked Spartans men’s volleyball team (11-1) returns to action Friday and Saturday against No. 7 Winnipeg (10-2). The Spartans are coming off a fall semester in which they won 24 of the 25 games, including a 13-0 preseason record.

The No. 10 women’s volleyball team also hosts Winnipeg (1-11) and will look to continue its late-semester momentum, as the Spartans entered the break riding an eight-game winning streak. The Spartans also earned a four-set victory over No. 1-ranked Montreal in a post-Christmas exhibition contest.
