U SPORTS TOP 10 | TWU MEN’S & WOMEN’S VOLLEYBALL NO. 1

U SPORTS TOP 10 | TWU MEN’S & WOMEN’S VOLLEYBALL NO. 1

LANGLEY, British Columbia – For the first time in Trinity Western history, the Spartans men’s and women’s volleyball teams are both ranked No. 1 in the U SPORTS Top 10 in the same week.

With the women’s team earning back-to-back wins over then-No. 1 Calgary, the team joined the men’s side atop the national rankings, while also improving to 12-0. TWU now enters the Christmas break with a perfect 21-0 record over the fall semester, including the preseason.

On the men’s side, the Spartans also picked up a pair of wins over Calgary this weekend, improving to 9-1 on the season and remaining atop the rankings for the third week in a row.

Both teams will have a month off before returning to Canada West action Jan. 4-5 when they travel to play Brandon.

The women’s volleyball rankings are still based on coaches’ votes. The men’s volleyball rankings are also based on a statistical calculation (VRS).

New this season, U SPORTS is implementing the ELO Rating System for the calculation of its weekly national rankings for soccer. Powered by RankR, ELO’s unique algorithm blends a statistical calculation with customized variables that is adaptable across a range of sports.
