LA GRANDE, Oregon – The Trinity Western Spartans were defeated 89-73 in preseason men's basketball action Saturday afternoon at Quinn Coliseum in La Grande, Oregon.
"I'm really proud of the boys tonight. They competed for 40 minutes on both ends of the floor and I'm happy with their effort despite the final score," commented TWU head coach Aaron Muhic. "With a hard week of practices we will be ready to go for our season opener against UBC-O and the team is excited to embark on the journey that is the season"
Fourth year guard Pogos Trunyan (Sacramento, Calf.) with 18 points, third year guard Tyus Allen (White Rock, B.C.) with 14 points and third year forward Tee Maberry (Pasadena, Calf.) with 13 points led the Spartans offence, while Bryan Mcgriff with 20 points and 13 rebounds and Max Mccullough with 19 points led the Warriors.
The Spartans ended the night shooting 47.5 percent (29-61) from the field, 22.2 percent (4-18) from the three point line and 61.1 percent (11-18) from the foul line, while the Warriors shot 46.4 percent (32-69), 25.7 percent (9-35) and 69.9 percent (16-23) respectively.
TWU finishes the preseason with a record of two wins and three losses.
TWU opens Canada West play Friday-Saturday, November 4-5 when they travel to Kelowna, B.C. to play the UBC Okanagan Heat. The Spartans home opener is on November 12 against the Fraser Valley Cascades.
