DE WAAL NAMED BCIHL PLAYER OF THE WEEK

LANGLEY, B.C. – Trinity Western University forward Dirk de Waal (Lethbridge, Alta.) is the BCIHL Anything Branded Player of the Week for the week ending October 7th.

The 22-year-old led the Spartans offence during a two-game weekend sweep on Vancouver Island, picking up four goals and an assist in two games.

On Friday, de Waal scored a pair of third period goals, including the tying and winning tallies, as TWU battled back from a 3-1 deficit to spoil the University of Victoria's home opener with a 6-3 victory. On Saturday, he had two goals and an assist as the Spartans built a 5-0 lead en route to a 5-1 win over Vancouver Island University in the Mariners first-ever game in the BCIHL.

De Waal's five points has him first among all scorers in the BCIHL after the first week of play, one point ahead of teammate Florian Niedermaier (Davos, Switzerland), Simon Fraser University forward Brandon Tidy and Selkirk College veteran Dallas Calvin.

Runners up for this week's Anything Branded POW award include Tidy, Calvin, and University of Victoria forward Patrick Holland.
