SPARTANS HOST SELKIRK IN BCIHL CHAMPIONSHIP SERIES, STARTING THURSDAY

LANGLEY, B.C. – The Trinity Western's men's hockey team will be seeking its first-ever league title as they face Selkirk in the best-of-three BCIHL championship series, starting Thursday (7:30 p.m.) at the George Preston Recreation Centre. Game 2 will be Friday (7 p.m.), and Game 3, if necessary, will be Saturday (7 p.m.).

THE WEEKEND STORY
• The Spartans play Selkirk in the BCHIL championship for the third time in the last five year.
• The teams met in the final in 2013-14 and 2015-16, with TWU being swept in both series, which were played in Castlegar, B.C.
• This weekend's series is also a rematch of last year's semifinals, in which TWU beat Selkirk on home ice – a series victory that ended the Saints four-year championship run.
• This will be TWU's fourth appearance in the BCIHL championship series in the last five years.
• The Spartans rallied from a two-goal deficit to beat Victoria 4-3 in Game 2 of their best-of-three semifinal, completing a series sweep of the Vikes Saturday at the George Preston Recreation Centre.
• The Selkirk Saints swept the VIU Mariners in their first round playoff series Saturday.
• TWU won four of its five meetings with Selkirk during the regular season.
• After the Saints beat the Spartans 5-2 in an early-November game, TWU has won four straight against Selkirk.
• TWU's Evan Last (Surrey, B.C.) was named ANYTHING BRANDED Player of the Week after putting up six points in the Spartans first round playoff series sweep.
• The semifinal series with Victoria was a rematch of last year's BCIHL championship series, which the Vikes won in a deciding Game 3 at the Langley Events Centre.
• Including the playoffs, TWU finished the season 7-0 against Victoria this year, outscoring the Vikes 43-15.
