U SPORTS TOP 10 | WOMEN’S SOCCER RANKED NO. 4, MEN’S SOCCER NO. 8

LANGLEY, British Columbia – The Trinity Western women’s soccer team is ranked No. 4 in the first U SPORTS Top 10 of the season, while the Spartans men’s team comes in at No. 8 in the opening rankings, which are now based on the ELO Rating System.

New this season, U SPORTS is implementing the ELO Rating System for the calculation of its weekly national rankings. Powered by RankR, ELO’s unique algorithm blends a statistical calculation with customized variables that is adaptable across a range of sports.

The defending Canada West champion Spartans women’s team, who also won a U SPORTS bronze medal last year, has put together a 5-2-1 record in preseason against largely NCAA competition. The team is set to open its Canada West campaign Sept. 7 at home against Victoria before hosting UBC the following night.

The men’s soccer team, who were last year’s Canada West silver medallists, launched their conference schedule Monday, playing to a 1-1 draw with UBC Okanagan in Kelowna, B.C. The Spartans home-opener is Friday against Victoria.

Note: Rankings and records do not include Monday’s night’s rescheduled Canada West men’s soccer games.
