LINDE TIES TWU RECORD, FINISHES FIFTH IN 60M; MEN’S 4X200 QUALIFIES FOR FINAL

EDMONTON – Trinity Western's James Linde (Coquitlam, B.C.) tied the Spartans school record in the 60m in both the preliminaries and the final, clocking a personal best time of 6.88 in both races to finish fifth overall at the U SPORTS championships Thursday at the University of Alberta's Universiade Pavillion.

Linde was fourth in the heats before finishing fifth in a final. Kyle Thompson of Guelph took gold in 6.75, while Linde was edged for fourth by Saskatchewan's Winston Williams, who finished in 6.86.

In the 4x200m relay, the Spartans men's team qualified for the final as the third seed after winning its heat in 1:29.04. The time bettered TWU's silver medal-winning effort at the Canada West championships when the Spartans crossed the line in 1:29.10. The team will race in the final Saturday at 2:25 p.m. (PT).

In the heptathlon, the Spartans David Boyd (Victoria, B.C.) posted personal best in the 60m (7.33), long jump (6.27m) and shot put (9.20m) while he equaled his best in high jump (1.72m). His first day effort saw him collect 2,413 points, which is 88 points better than his performance on the first day of the Canada West championships, where he captured gold.

The men's and women's teams continue the U SPORTS championships Friday and Saturday.
