OLATOKE POSTS PERSONAL BEST, FINISHES 6TH IN 60M

WINNIPEG – Trinity Western first-year sprinter Praise Olatoke (Glasgow, Scotland) ran a personal best time of 6.90 in the 60m to finish sixth in the final, leading the Spartans on the first day of the U SPORTS Track & Field Championships Thursday at the University of Manitoba's James Daly Fieldhouse.

Olatoke, who finished fifth at the Canada West Championships with a time of 6.98, bettered his previous personal best time of 6.92 twice as he ran 6.90 in both the preliminaries and the final. Teammate Kenny Blackman Jr. (Surrey, B.C.), who won gold at the conference championships, finished 10th overall after running 6.96 in the preliminaries.

The only other Spartan competing on Day 1 was Chris Weiss (West Vancouver, B.C.), who took on the first day of the heptathlon, slotting into eighth place through the first four events. Weiss has 2471 points with the 60m hurdles, pole vault and the 1000m to be contested Friday.

The three-day national competition continues Friday and Saturday.
