LANGLEY, British Columbia – The three-time defending Canada West champion Trinity Western men’s volleyball team will begin its quest for a four-peat with a road trip to play UBC Okanagan (Oct. 26-27) before returning to the Langley Events Centre to host Alberta in a critical home-opening weekend (Nov. 2-3). The Canada West regular season schedule was announced Wednesday.
The fall semester will be highlighted by the annual series with the Golden Bears as this year it will represent a rematch of last year’s Canada West final, which TWU won in four set.
In the second semester, TWU fans should circle the Jan. 25-26 weekend, as the Spartans will host UBC on both nights in a rematch of last year’s U SPORTS championship game. The Thunderbirds knocked off TWU in three sets to snuff out the Spartans shot at a U SPORTS three-peat.
Following the first two weekends of the year, the first semester has TWU travelling to play Winnipeg, who the Spartans beat in last year’s Canada West semifinal series, and Saskatchewan before hosting Calgary in the final weekend of the opening semester.
Prior to their second-semester series with UBC, the Spartans will be on the road in Brandon before hosting Thompson Rivers in mid-January.
TWU will end the season with road trips to Mount Royal and MacEwan before finishing the year on home court against Manitoba.
Last year, TWU finished atop the Canada West regular season standings with a 22-2 record.
The Université Laval will host this year’s U SPORTS championships Mar. 14-17.
The Canada West men’s volleyball schedule differs slightly from the women’s schedule with the subtraction of the University of Regina after the Cougars cut their men’s volleyball program.
