    It was an historic season for the Trinity Western women's basketball team. From unprecedented individual performances to a program record 16-4 regular season record to a first round playoff bye to a first-ever appearance in the Canada West semifinals, the 2017-18 campaign was best season in the women’s basketball team’s history. While the season ended Saturday night with a two-point loss to Calgary, 65-63, in the Canada West Bronze Medal Game, for fans and players alike, it was a night to remember at the Langley Events Centre.

    LANGLEY, B.C. – For the first time in program history, the Trinity Western Spartans can claim the CW Coach of the Year as their own. Head coach Cheryl Jean-Paul has been voted the conference’s top coach by her colleagues, as the Winnipeg native guided TWU to a 16-4 regular season – the best result in program history.
  • RATZLAFF NAMED FIRST TEAM ALL-STAR, GORDON SECOND TEAM ALL-STAR

    LANGLEY, B.C. – Trinity Western’s Tessa Ratzlaff (Abbotsford, B.C.) is the first Spartans women’s basketball player to ever be named a Canada West First Team All-Star, while teammate Kayla Gordon (Prince George, B.C.) joined her among the conference honourees, as she was named a Third Team All-Star.

    It was senior athlete appreciation night on January 27th when the Kayla Gordon’s family walked into gym of the Langley Events Centre. It was the last regular season home game Gordon would play as a Spartan. As her friends and family approached the bleachers Kayla’s younger sister, Melissa, eyed an empty row that the whole group could fill. Gordon’s mom and dad, grandparents, sister, boyfriend, former coach and a few friends took their seats side-by-side. A warm smile came across the face of Gordon’s mom, Susanne as she looked down and saw her daughter on the court.

    LANGLEY, B.C. – The No. 9-ranked Trinity Western’s women’s basketball team will host the Alberta Pandas in a best-of-three quarter-final series, starting Thursday at the Langley Events Centre.
  • SPARTANS SET PROGRAM RECORD FOR WINS AFTER WINNING FINAL FOUR GAMES OF SEASON

    EDMONTON – The No. 10 ranked Trinity Western Spartans will finish third in Canada West after earning a 68-54 victory over the MacEwan Griffins Saturday night in Edmonton. The victory gives the Spartans a program best 16 wins as TWU finishes 16-4 in conference play. The loss finishes the Griffins season with a 4-16 record. TWU finishes the season with the same record as Victoria, but the Spartans get second place based on the better RPI.

    EDMONTON – The No. 10 ranked Trinity Western Spartans started slow, but used a strong middle 20 minutes to defeat the MacEwan Griffins 66-55 Friday night in Edmonton.Tessa Ratzlaff (Abbotsford, B.C.) led TWU with 18 points, six boards, four assists, a steal and a block, while Jessie Brown (Langley, B.C.) bucketed 16 and Kianna Wiens (Regina) chipped in nine points in 23 minutes off the bench.
