SPARTANS TRAVEL TO EDMONTON TO BATTLE MACEWAN REGULAR SEASON FINALE

LANGLEY, B.C. – The No. 10-ranked Trinity Western’s women’s basketball team will travel to Edmonton to play the final two games of its regular season schedule Friday and Saturday.

THE WEEKEND STORY
• The Spartans play the Griffins for the first time ever in the regular season. The Griffins entered the Canada West conference as competitors in 2014, but due to conference alignment and scheduling, this will be the first regular season meeting between the teams.
• With an RPI set to determine playoff seeding, the playoff-bound Spartans will await the results of this weekend to learn where they will finish in the conference standings.
• TWU’s Kayla Gordon (Prince George, B.C.), who passed Spartan alum Holly Strom last weekend as the all-time career points leader, now has 1,143 points in her career. If she tallies 25 or more points over the weekend, she will move into the top 50 all-time amongst Canada West scorers.
• The teams met once in an exhibition game prior to the 2015-16 season. TWU lost 69-50.
• TWU looks to build upon a weekend sweep of Thompson Rivers this past weekend at home.
• Last Saturday was senior athlete appreciation night for the Spartans as they Ashleigh Barnes (Oceanside, Calif.) and Gordon. Both playerss achieved double-doubles. Gordon had 17 points and 11 rebounds and Barnes added 10 points and 11 rebounds.
• Tessa Ratzlaff (Abbotsford, B.C.) led the Spartans with 28 points in last Saturday’s win.
• The Griffins were swept by Alberta this past weekend which eliminated MacEwan from playoff contention.
• MacEwan’s leading scorers this year have been Kayla Ivicak, who is averaging 12. 9 points per game, and Paige Knull, who has 11.2 points per game.
