KASHIMA SCORES IN PRESEASON WIN OVER CONCORDIA (ORE.)

PORTLAND, OregonSeina Kashima (Burnaby, B.C.) scored in the 41st minute and the Spartans held off Concordia University (NCAA Div. II) to pick up a 1-0 win Saturday.

The victory is the Spartans second straight in preseason and improves their record to 2-1 in their exhibition schedule.

Spartans goalkeeper Christina Oliverio (Calgary) made two saves to earn the clean sheet.

The Spartans had a 3-2 edge in shots on target.

"While there were some positive performances, I was disappointed that we didn't play with mental sharpness tonight," said Spartans coach Graham Roxburgh. "Concordia played well in the second half and our lack of focus was evident. However, Seina scored a nice goal and Kat Chin (Calgary) was definitely a positive factor for us, as she was superb in her work rate and sharpness."

TWU will play its final preseason game Sunday against the University of Puget Sound in Tacoma, Wash. at 5 p.m. (PT).

TWU opens its Canada West regular season at home Sept. 8-9 against UBC and Victoria.
