SPARTANS OPEN REGULAR SEASON AT HOME AGAINST UBC, VICTORIA

LANGLEY, B.C. – The No. 3-ranked Trinity Western women's soccer team starts its Canada West regular season with a monumental weekend, as the Spartans host No. 4 UBC Friday and No. 9 Victoria Saturday to kick off their 2017 campaign at Chase Office Field.

THE WEEKEND STORY
• Friday's game marks a rematch of last year's Canada West final, when UBC knocked off the Spartans 3-0 to win the conference title.
• The Spartans are coming off their first ever unbeaten regular season in 2016, when they posted a 11-0-3 record.
• During last year's regular season, TWU scored 31 goals (3rd in Canada West) while leading the conference in goals against, with just six.
• TWU's contest with UBC will feature two the best offences in the country.
     o Leading the way for the Spartans is Rachel Hutchinson (Cloverdale, B.C.), who had three goals and seven assists last year, and Seina Kashima (Burnaby, B.C.), who had three goals and six assists and was a Canada West First Team All-Star in 2016.
     o The Thunderbirds will be led by Jasmin Dhanda, who had 10 goals and eight assists last year, and Aman Shergill, who put up five goals and three assists.
• Against the Vikes, the netminding of Puck Louwes could prove to be TWU's biggest challenge, as she made 11 saves to earn a clean sheet against UBC last weekend.
• The Thunderbirds and Vikes are the only two Canada West teams to have played a game this year as they faced each other last weekend, with Victoria winning 1-0.
