SPARTANS OPEN 2017 REGULAR SEASON AT HOME AGAINST UBC AND VICTORIA

LANGLEY, British Columbia – The Trinity Western’s women’s soccer team’s 2017 Canada West regular season schedule was officially unveiled Thursday, with the Spartans 14-match campaign opening at home against UBC and Victoria Sept. 8-9.

SCHEDULE HIGHLIGHTS
•    The Spartans open their season at home against rivals UBC (Sept. 8) and Victoria (Sept. 9).
o    TWU was 1-0-1 against both the Thunderbirds and Vikes in the regular season last year.
o    The Spartans season-opener against UBC marks a rematch of the last two Canada West championship games, which were both won by the T-Birds.
•    TWU will cap its season with what will be an all-important road weekend against Victoria and UBC.
•    The Spartans and Cascades will once again renew their rivalry with a home-and-home series that will see TWU host UFV Oct. 6 before the rematch in Abbotsford, B.C. Oct. 8.
•    This season marks a new conference playoff format on the women’s side, as the Final Four returns after two years of a six-team format. The opening round of the playoffs will feature preliminary and quarter-finals matches.
o    The top two teams in both the Prairie and Pacific Divisions will host the opening weekend of the playoffs and receive a bye in the quarter-finals.
•    TWU, which will feature as many as six Calgarians on its roster this fall, travels to play the University of Calgary Sept. 16.
