LANGLEY, British Columbia – Trinity Western’s women’s soccer team will open its Canada West championship defence with a rematch of last year’s gold medal game against Victoria Sept. 7 at the Spartans Chase Office Field. The 2018 regular season schedule was released Thursday.
The Spartans season-opening contest is part of a key home weekend in which the Spartans will also host UBC Sept. 8. TWU capped last year’s Canada West campaign with a 3-0 semifinal win over the Thunderbirds followed by a 2-1 win over the Vikes in the conference final.
Also highlighting the Spartans 2018 regular season schedule will be their annual home-and-home series with Fraser Valley, in which TWU will host the Cascades Oct. 5 before travelling to Abbotsford, B.C. for the rematch Oct. 7.
The Spartans will also host Alberta, who were last year’s Prairie Division regular season champions, Oct. 12.
TWU’s 14-game schedule has the Spartans travelling to visit UBC (Oct. 19) and Victoria (Oct. 20) in the final weekend of the regular season.
A noteworthy road contest will see TWU travel to play Manitoba in the second weekend of the season (Sept. 14). The Spartans beat the host Bisons in last year’s U SPORTS quarter-finals by a 4-0 count.
TWU posted a 10-3-1 regular season record last year, which included a 10-match shutout streak. The Spartans went on to win the conference title before earning a bronze medal at the national championship.
The Spartans have played in each of the last seven Canada West championship games, winning four times (2011, 2012, 2014 and 2017).
