SPARTANS FALL TO UBC IN KEG CUP SEMIFINALS

VICTORIA – Trinity Western dropped a 3-2 decision against UBC in the semifinals of the 33rd annual Keg Spring Cup Saturday at Centennial Stadium.

Elizabeth Hicks (Surrey, B.C.) and Kathryn Harvey (Coquitlam, B.C.) scored for the Spartans, but three goals from the Thunderbirds saw UBC nab a spot in Sunday's final.

TWU will play in the consolation final Sunday at 10 a.m. (PT).

Hicks opened the scoring 20 minutes into the contest, but the T-Birds responded with three straight goals. Harvey scored in the 78th minute to get the Spartans within a goal, but that was as close as TWU would come.

Ella Sutton (Port Moody, B.C.) was in goal for TWU.

The loss marks the first time since 2015 that the Spartans will miss out on the tournament final, as TWU had beaten the T-Birds in each of its last three semifinal meetings. TWU beat UBC in last year's Keg Spring Cup semifinal (1-0) before losing to Alberta in the final (2-1 on PKs).

QUOTABLE
Graham Roxburgh - TWU Head Coach
"We did some good things today and we generated some really good chances, but we just couldn't quite find the finish. Conversely, we were punished by good finishing on corporate mistakes. We need to learn from those mistakes and move forward. In the end, we had some good performances but we need to be better as a team."
