SEATTLE – Trinity Western's Mirelle Martens (Grande Prairie, Alta.) posted a season's best 3000m time at the Husky Classic, crossing the line in 9:40.59 to move into fifth in the U SPORTS 3000m rankings.
With her result, Martens, who finished 59th overall, also moved atop the Canada West 3000m rankings.
On the men's side, Caleb de Jong (Winnipeg) finished the 3000m with a time of 8:21.96, crossing the line 45th overall.
De Jong entered the weekend seventh overall in the U SPORTS 3000m rankings (8:15.07) and second in the Canada West rankings.
Due to expected inclement weather and a campus-wide shutdown at the University of Washington, the Husky Classic meet, which was planned for this Friday and Saturday in the Dempsey, was condensed into a one-day meet on Friday.
Most of TWU's athletes are competing in the Gary Reed Indoor Invitational in Kamloops, B.C. this weekend.
TWU will host the Spartan Pole Vault Classic Jan. 16 at the on-campus David E. Enarson Gym, before preparing for the Canada West Championships Feb. 22-23 at Edmonton.
