LANGLEY, British Columbia –Trinity Western midfielder Bryana Buttar (Abbotsford, B.C.) is the Spartan Female Athlete of the Week after helping to lead the women’s soccer team to a U SPORTS silver medal this past weekend at Queen’s University in Kingston, Ont. The Spartans went 2-1 at the tournament with Buttar being named to the tournament all-star team with two play-of-the-match awards in the three TWU matches

The fourth-year general studies student finished the weekend with a total of eight shots, with five on target as TWU defeated Queen’s 2-1 in overtime and Laval 3-0 in regulation, before falling to UBC 1-0 in overtime in the championship match.

The Spartans now have five U SPORTS championships to go with five silver medals and one bronze medal.

TWU ends the 2023 season with their 10th Canada West Championship and a U SPORTS silver medal with a conference record of 9-2-3 and a post-season record of 3-1-2 with two penalty kick wins.

As official members of U SPORTS, the Spartans currently compete in 13 sports in the Canada West conference, including women's and men's soccer, volleyball, basketball, hockey, cross country and track & field, as well as women's rugby sevens.
