LANGLEY, British Columbia–Trinity Western’s Aristote Kalala (Cape Town, South Africa) is the Spartan Male Athlete of the Week after averaging 17 points, 9.5 rebounds, and two blocks per game against the No. 4 UBC Thunderbirds this past weekend at War Memorial Gym in Vancouver, B.C.
 
In Friday night’s 78-70 loss, the second-year forward had a double-double of 16 points, and 12 rebounds, with three blocks, and one steal. Then on Saturday night, the Communications student had a season-high 18 points, seven rebounds, two steals, and a blocked shot in the Spartans' 98-84 loss.
 
It was a break-out weekend for Kalala who is currently averaging 7.6 points, and 4.1 rebounds while shooting 38.5 percent in Canada West conference play.
 
The Spartans will now return home for two games against the Victoria Vikes on January 12 and January 13. Friday night’s match will be on the TWU campus in the David E. Enarson Gym, while Saturday’s will be at the Langley Events Centre. Game times are set for 8 p.m. and 6 p.m. and can be seen live on Canadawest.TV.
