LANGLEY, British Columbia– Trinity Western’s Connor Platz (Langley, B.C.) is the Spartan Male Athlete of the Week after averaging 14 rebounds, 11.5 points, seven assists, and 5.5 blocks per game to lead the Spartans to back-to-back wins over the UNBC Timberwolves this past weekend at the Langley Events Centre.

On Friday night the third-year center had a career night with his first triple-double of 13 points, 11 rebounds, and 10 assists to lead the Spartans to a 97-90 win over the Timberwolves. He also had seven blocks, which put him three blocks away from a quadruple-double, something that has never happened in Canada West before. Platz becomes the second Spartan to record a triple-double in Canada West conference play, joining Mason Bourcier ’23.

On Saturday night the general studies student had a double-double with 10 points, 18 rebounds, four assists, and four blocks in leading the Spartans to an 80-69 win. The 18 rebounds on Saturday were all defensive, which ties for the fifth most in a single game in Canada West history. The 18 total rebounds are also the second most in TWU history. Tyrell Mara ’11 had 21 against Brandon on February 4, 2011.

With the 11 blocks on the weekend, Platz now has 63 in conference play this season, breaking the Canada West single-season record of 57, which he set last season.

This week Spartans will conclude the 2023-24 season with two road games at the UFV Cascades in Abbotsford, B.C. Game times on Friday and Saturday night are at 8 p.m. and 7 p.m. at the UFV Athletic Centre and can be seen live on Canada West TV.
