LANGLEY, British Columbia –Trinity Western midfielder Thomas Powell (Coquitlam, B.C.) is the Spartan Male Athlete of the Week after setting up two of the Spartans’ three goals to give the Spartans their first win of the season Friday at Chase Office Field. The win in this weekend’s single game against the Mount Royal Cougars, puts TWU at 1-3-1.

The fourth-year midfielder set up the Spartans first two goals to help lead Trinity Western to a 3-1 win over the then No. 9 ranked MRU Cougars. Powell also had two shots and now has four points (1 goal, 3 assists) on the season.

Powell and the rest of the Spartans will head back on the road next weekend to Edmonton, Alta. for games against Alberta and MacEwan. TWU plays the Alberta Golden Bears at Foote Field at 2:15 p.m. (MT) on Saturday in Edmonton, and the MacEwan Griffins at 12 p.m. (MT) at Clarke Stadium in Edmonton. TWU’s next home games are on October 4-5 when they will host the UBC Okanagan Heat and the TRU WolfPack at Chase Office Field.
