LANGLEY, British Columbia –Trinity Western third-year libero Tate Calles (Anacortes, Wash.) is the Spartan Male Athlete of the Week after a 14-dig, six-assist, 70 percent in-system passing weekend to help the Spartans to a weekend sweep of the Thompson Rivers WolfPack this past weekend at the Langley Events Centre in Langley, B.C.
 
On Friday night, the human kinetics student had eight digs and three assists as the Spartans defeated the WolfPack 3-2. Then on Saturday night, Calles finished with six digs and three assists as the Spartans won in straight sets to complete the weekend sweep of the WolfPack.
 
Calles and the Spartans will not travel to play Brandon Jan. 16-17 at the Healthy Living Centre. The Spartans' next home games are Feb. 6-7 when they host Saskatchewan.

As official members of U SPORTS, the Spartans currently compete in 11 sports in the Canada West conference, including women's and men's soccer, volleyball, basketball, hockey and track & field, as well as women's rugby sevens. TWU also competes as in the NAIA in track and field and cross country and as an independent team in men's rugby and women's and men's disc golf. Since TWU entered U SPORTS in 1999, the Spartans have won 14 U SPORTS team championships and 33 Canada West team championships.
