LANGLEY, British Columbia –Trinity Western second-year middle distance runner Yemane Mulugeta (Surrey, B.C.) is the Spartan Male Athlete of the Week after setting a Spartans’ record in the 3000-meter race at the University of Washington Preview at Dempsey Indoor in Seattle, Wash.

On Saturday afternoon, the natural science student finished the 3000-meter race in a time of 8:03.50, which broke the 11-year-old record, which was previously held by Declan White, who clocked a time of 8:05.94 on Jan. 31, 2015, at Dempsey Indoor. Mulugeta’s time also earns him an automatic qualification with the A standard for the NAIA Indoor Championships, March 5-7 in Gainesville, Fla.

Mulugeta and the rest of the Spartans will have a week off before heading to Spokane, Wash., for the Inland Northwest Invitational on Saturday, January 31.
