LANGLEY, British Columbia –Trinity Western fifth-year setter Anselm Rein (Erfurt, Germany) is the Spartans Male Athlete of the Week after helping lead the Spartans to a Canada West Championship this past weekend at UBC’s War Memorial Gym in Vancouver, B.C.
 
The biology student finished the weekend with 79 set assists in leading the Spartans to a .346 attack efficiency in their two wins. TWU hit at .412 with Rein earning 33 assists in the Spartans' 3-0 semifinal win over the Alberta Golden Bears. Then, in the gold medal match, he finished with 46 assists with TWU hitting at .306 in TWU’s 3-1 win over Manitoba.
 
Rein, and the rest of the Spartans will now head to the U SPORTS championship next week in Windsor, Ont., as the No. 1 seed. TWU will match up with the No. 8 seed Western Mustangs in the opening quarter-final match on Friday, March 13 at 8 p.m. (ET) at the Toldo Lancer Centre in Windsor, Ont.

As official members of U SPORTS, the Spartans currently compete in 11 sports in the Canada West conference, including women's and men's soccer, volleyball, basketball, hockey, and track & field, as well as women's rugby sevens. TWU also competes in the NAIA in track and field, cross country, and as an independent team in men's rugby and women's and men's disc golf. Since TWU entered U SPORTS in 1999, the Spartans have won 14 U SPORTS team championships and 33 Canada West team championships.
