LANGLEY, British Columbia –Trinity Western second-year Yemane Mulugeta (Surrey, B.C.) is the Spartans' Male Athlete of the Week, after breaking the Spartans’ record for the 5,000-meter race this past weekend at the Bryan Clay Invitational at Azusa Pacific University in Azusa, California.
 
Yemane set a new standard with a time of 13:56.22 and finished fifth in the men’s open category. Yemane bettered his previous TWU record of 14:06.20, which he set this past March 28 at the UBC Open.
 
Yemane and the rest of the Spartans will now be heading to Bellingham, Wash. to compete at the Pee Wee Halsell Invitational and the Ralph Vernacchia Invitational on April 24-25 at the Civic Stadium.
 
About Spartan Athletics
As official members of U SPORTS, the Spartans currently compete in 11 sports in the Canada West conference, including women's and men's soccer, volleyball, basketball, hockey, and track & field, as well as women's rugby sevens. TWU also competes in the NAIA in track and field, cross country, and as an independent team in men's rugby and women's and men's disc golf. Since TWU entered U SPORTS in 1999, the Spartans have won 15 U SPORTS team championships and 34 Canada West team championships.
