LANGLEY, British Columbia –Trinity Western second-year Malcolm Reid (Mission, B.C.) is the Spartans' Male Athlete of the Week, after setting a TWU record and qualifying for the NAIA B Standard this past weekend at the Pee Wee Halsell Invitational at the Civic Stadium in Bellingham, Wash.
 
The business student earned NAIA National Championship Qualifying “B” Standard and broke the TWU record in the 3000m Steeplechase with a time of 9:21.69 to place first at the Pee Wee Halsell Invitational. Reid bettered the previous record of 9:26.20, which had been held by Joel De Schiffart since April 25, 2015, in Bellingham, Wash.
 
On Saturday at the Ralph Vernacchia Invitational, Reid finished sixth in the 5000m with a time of 15:10.51.
 
After a week off, Reid and the rest of the Spartans will now be heading to the CCC Championship at Banner Bank Track in La Grande, Oregon

As official members of U SPORTS, the Spartans currently compete in 11 sports in the Canada West conference, including women's and men's soccer, volleyball, basketball, hockey, and track & field, as well as women's rugby sevens. TWU also competes in the NAIA in track and field, cross country, and as an independent team in men's rugby and women's and men's disc golf. Since TWU entered U SPORTS in 1999, the Spartans have won 15 U SPORTS team championships and 34 Canada West team championships.
