LANGLEY, British Columbia – Trinity Western goalie Grace Deveau (St. Albert, Alta.) is the Spartan Female Athlete of the Week after making 48 saves in her Canada West debut to lead the Spartans to a 4-1 victory over the UBC Thunderbirds on Saturday at The ARENAS at Langley Events Centre.

The second-year human kinetics student stopped 48 of 49 shots over the full 60 minutes, posting a .980 save percentage in her only appearance of the weekend. Deveau turned aside all 14 first-period shots and all 15 in the second as the Spartans built a 4-0 lead.

Deveau added 19 saves in the third period, allowing only a power-play goal at 10:55. The victory was TWU’s first over UBC since a 2-0 preseason win on September 15, 2023. It was also the Spartans’ first Canada West win over the Thunderbirds since a 3-2 overtime victory on November 10, 2022, and just their second conference win in the series. Deveau’s debut delivered TWU’s first regulation victory over UBC in Canada West play.

The Spartans will travel to Edmonton to face the MacEwan Griffins on Friday, October 23, and Saturday, October 24, at Downtown Community Arena. Both games can be seen live on Canada West TV.
