SEATTLE – The Trinity Western University women's soccer team opened their first road trip of the 2015 preseason with a 2-1 loss to Seattle University Thursday afternoon at Champions field in Seattle. Fourth year forward Isabella Di Trocchio scored the lone Spartan after TWU fell behind 2-0 early in the match.
"I'm pleased that we could get good minutes for lots of players. A little disappointed in the result, not in that we lost, but in the way that we gave up the goals. We were passive to start the game did not have a competitive spirit. We did not start well and failed on a number of attempts to clear the ball from our end and ended up paying the price," commented TWU head coach Graham Roxburgh. "We played better as the match continued and were fairly even through the middle of the match. In the final 30 minutes, we were probably the slightly better team. We are young and we have players that are going to have to push through what playing at the university level looks like."
Seattle got two goals in the first 15 minutes. Julia Moravec opened the scoring two minutes into the match with Summer Mason adding the eventual game winner in the 15th minute.
Di Trocchio scored the Spartans goal in the 70th minute. "Izzy was very sharp on the ball and scored a wonderful goal," commented Roxburgh.
The fourth year forward took on the Redhawks' defender then cut it back and pinged it from about 25 yards, with the Seattle keeper having no chance.
TWU will now travel to Oregon to take on the Corbin College Warriors Friday afternoon at 4 p.m. in Salem, Oregon, and then travel to Corvallis, Oregon to take on the Oregon State University Beavers Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m. Both matches are exhibition/scrimmages.
The Spartans open up Canada West play on Friday and Saturday September 11-12 when they will host the University of Victoria and the University of British Columbia at Rogers Field.
