SPARTANS RETURN TO LANGLEY FOR HOME-OPENING WEEKEND

LANGLEY, B.C. – The No. 3-ranked Spartans return to Langley for their home-opening weekend, as they host the Winnipeg Wesmen Friday, followed by the Manitoba Bisons Saturday at Chase Office Field.

WEEKEND PREVIEW
Friday, Sep 13th vs. Winnipeg – 5 p.m. (PT)
Saturday, Sep 14th vs. Manitoba – 5 p.m. (PT)

THE WEEKEND STORY
•    The two-time defending Canada West champion Spartans return home following their opening games last weekend, when they tied UBC (0-0) followed by a win at Victoria (3-2).
•    Spartans goalkeeper Hannah Miller (Langley) will look to continue her strong play after posting a shutout and a combined 11 saves last weekend.
•    The last time TWU played at home was last year's CW final when the Spartans beat Calgary 1-0, with the winning goal coming from now fifth-year Rachel Hutchinson (Cloverdale, B.C.).
•    In search for their first win of the season, Winnipeg is looking to rebound after a tough weekend at home dropping back-to-back games against Regina (3-1) and Saskatchewan (4-0).
•    Wesmen forward Shae-Lynn Dodds has the team's only goal thus far, having scored in their season-opening loss to Regina.
•    Manitoba meanwhile is tied for fourth in the Prairie Division standings and is coming off a home-opening win over Regina (3-0), which came on the heels of a season-opening loss to Saskatchewan (2-1).
•    The Spartans last played Manitoba one year ago to the day, a 1-0 victory on the road in Winnipeg (Sept. 14, 2018). TWU followed that up by earning a 3-0 win against the Wesmen the next day.
•    TWU is 4-0 all-time against Winnipeg and has never surrendered a goal against the Wesmen, outscoring them 18-0 over their four meetings.
•    The Spartans are 13-2 all-time against Manitoba and have won 11 straight games against the Bisons, including regular season and playoffs.
