LANGLEY, B.C. – Four Spartans have been named Canada West All-Stars after going undefeated through 12 games of conference play.
Leading scorer
Anna Dunn (Edmonton) and team captain
Elizabeth Hicks (Surrey, B.C.) earned spots on the first team. Alongside Dunn and Hicks comes fellow graduating senior
Kathryn Harvey (Coquitlam, B.C.), who earned a spot on the second team with first-year
Tilly James (Vancouver, B.C.), the lone Spartan to make the all-rookie team.
With this award, Hicks has been named to Canada West's first team for the second consecutive season. TWU's captain had her best season yet in 2021, scoring four goals while adding two assists. Still, the bulk of Hicks' achievement comes on the defensive end as Hicks anchored a Spartans back-line incredibly. With Hicks snuffing out opposing chances, TWU only conceded a Canada-West best of four goals through 12 matches.
Anna Dunn joins Hicks as the second Spartan named to the first team after an incredible season in the attacking midfield. Dunn, a recent transfer from the University of Alberta, was a constant presence on each game-sheet throughout the season. The fourth-year midfielder went on to score nine goals and eight assists through 11 matches. Dunn's 17 points were enough to finish second in the conference.
Spartans forward
Kathryn Harvey was named to the second team after another season of threatening attacks on opposing defences. Harvey potted four goals, adding four assists to sound off on a well-balanced year for the fourth-year. This is Harvey's second consecutive appearance on the Canada West second team as the dynamic forward earned her first spot in 2019.
Tilly James is the final Spartan listed on 2021's Canada West second team. James, who spent the season in a centre back pairing with
Elizabeth Hicks, quickly became known as a defensive stopper, and scorer of timely goals throughout her first season in Spartans colours. The first-year defender also stands as the lone Spartan named to Canada West's all-rookie team.
The No. 1-ranked Spartans continue begin their run in the Canada West playoffs this Saturday (5 p.m. PT), as they host Victoria for a quarter-final match.
