SYDNEY, N.S. – Trinity Western defender
Elizabeth Hicks (Surrey, B.C.) and striker
Anna Dunn (Edmonton) were named U SPORTS 1st Team All-Canadians, while defender
Tilly James (Vancouver) was named to the U SPORTS All-Rookie Team Wednesday night, as the national award winners were celebrated at the annual All-Canadian Gala.
The First Team All-Canadian honour is a first for both Hicks and Dunn, who were named Canada West First Team All-Stars earlier this year. For James, the All-Rookie nod adds to an impressive collection of acknowledgements, as she was a Canada West Second Team All-Star and was named to the Canada West All-Rookie Team.
The trio joins TWU coach
Graham Roxburgh amongst the Spartans contingent who were honoured Wednesday, as Roxburgh was named the U SPORTS Fox 40 Coach of the Year.
The fifth-year Hicks captained TWU to an 11-0-1 regular season record, while scoring four goals and adding two assists from her centre back position. Defensively, Hicks anchored a Spartans back-line incredibly well, as TWU only conceded four goals through 12 Canada West matches. In the post-season, Hicks led TWU's defensive wall to three straight clean sheets on route to winning the Canada West title.
Up front, Dunn was a constant presence on the scoreboard throughout the season, as the fourth-year midfielder scored nine goals and added eight assists through 11 matches. Dunn's 17 points were enough to have her finish second in Canada West.
James, who played alongside Hicks at centre back throughout the year, was a defensive stalwart for TWU. The first-year star was a key piece in TWU's staunch back line that earned a Canada West leading nine clean sheets, while also contributing three goals towards the Spartans offensive cause.
The Spartans open the U SPORTS Championship tournament Thursday at 5:30 p.m. AT / 1:30 p.m. PT against the host Cape Breton Capers. The game is available at
