LANGLEY, B.C. – Trinity Western forward
Kathryn Harvey (Coquitlam, B.C.) is this week's Spartan Female Athlete of the Week after scoring two goals in the Canada West Final Four. Both of Harvey's goals lifted the Spartans to victory, securing the program's ninth Canada West Championship.
Harvey was up for the task the minute the ball was kicked off in Friday's semi-final match against Saskatchewan. The fourth-year forward combined a flurry of well-worked crosses with threatening striking opportunities, eventually scoring in the 15
th minute. The Spartans cruised to victory after Harvey's goal, securing a spot in the Canada West final, and a berth to the U SPORTS Championships in Sydney, N.S.
Saturday's final against UBC stands out as a massive moment in Harvey's illustrious history with the Spartans. The game was at a 0-0 deadlock, with the control of the game shifting between TWU and the visiting Thunderbirds. Finally, in the 88
th minute, Harvey received a beautifully pinged through-ball from Spartans midfielder
Sierra Halldorson (Winnipeg). With nothing but the keeper to beat, Harvey sealed the deal for the Spartans, scoring her second goal of the weekend to cap off her outstanding performance over TWU's two important matches.
Harvey's game-winning goal in the Canada West final now stands as a key moment in Spartans history. Once Harvey's goal was scored, the crowd erupted, knowing that the third Canada West title in the past four seasons had been obtained by Harvey and the Spartans.
