SPARTANS FALL TO MACEWAN IN PRESEASON ACTION

EDMONTON – Trinity Western's women's soccer team lost for the first time this preseason, dropping a 2-0 decision to MacEwan Friday afternoon at Clarke Stadium.

The Spartans are now 0-1-2 in three preseason contests.

AS IT HAPPENED
The hometown Griffins scored off a deflection in the first 20 minutes of the match and then tallied again just before halftime with a goal from a counterattack. TWU pushed to respond in the second half, but was unable to find the back of the net.

QUOTABLE
TWU Head Coach Graham Roxburgh
"When you start as lackadaisical and not on your front foot as we did, you're going to be bound to make mistakes and we did. We gave up two goals on mistakes and in the end, we got punished for not being as energetic and as aggressive as we wanted to be. Positively, I thought our two centre-backs were outstanding, but in the end, we didn't take care of our chances and we weren't razor sharp. We generated some offence in the second half, but nothing really threatening and in the end, we are left to pay for our mistakes."
