LANGLEY, B.C. – The no. 2 ranked Spartans snuck by Fraser Valley with a late goal to beat Fraser Valley 1-0 on Saturday.
Â
The Spartans now move to a Canada West best 6-0-0 with Saturday's victory.
Â
After Trinity Western defeated Fraser Valley comfortably on Friday – earning a 5-0 win over their cross-town rival – the Cascades appeared to be an entirely different competitor in Saturday's match.
Â
The first half of the match saw Fraser Valley threaten the Spartans far more than Friday's 5-0 rout, leaving the Spartans relatively surprised out of the gates. Baffled by Fraser Valley's competitive fire, Trinity Western was forced to settle into the game earlier.
Â
The Spartans started to battle back with chances, but Fraser Valley's fourth-year keeper Joven Sandhu turned away countless golden opportunities created by the Spartans.
Â
Still, with Sandhu dictating the game's script, the Spartans struck at twilight. Grace van den Brink (Chilliwack, B.C.) launched a perfect, lofted through-ball across the field to an open
Anna Dunn (Edmonton). Dunn weaseled her way past the final Fraser Valley defender to tuck the ball into the back in the net, putting the Spartans up 1-0 in the 85
th minute.
Â
NOTABLE
- Anna Dunn is on fire. Coming off being named U SPORTS player of the week after last weekend's performances against UNBC, Dunn put together three goals and one assist in this weekend's matchups against Fraser Valley. Dunn's 13 points scored through six matches played give her a sizable lead in leading Canada West.
- Spartans goalkeeper Hannah Miller (Langley, B.C.) extended her clean-sheet streak to five this weekend. The longest clean-sheet streak in Trinity Western history was posted in 2017, when the Spartans went 10 games without conceding.
- The current 6-0-0 start the Spartans are currently riding is the best they've had since 2012 (8-0-0).

QUOTABLE
TWU Head Coach Graham Roxburgh
"An unbelievable ball by Grace to seal the game for us. To come in for the final 10 minutes of the game and make a composed play like that is spectacular. Credit to Anna for finishing that goal really well.
Â
"I thought Fraser Valley defended tenaciously. We weren't wise with our decisions though, we focussed too much on being direct.
Â
"Overall, it's a cross-town rivalry that we won three points from. We're happy with that."
