SPARTANS AND VIKES BATTLE TO DRAW IN FINAL MATCH OF THE SEASON

VICTORIA, British Columbia– In a high scoring match the Trinity Western Spartans and the Victoria Vikes went back and forth all game before settling for a 3-3 draw Saturday night at Centennial Stadium in Victoria, B.C. TWU's Holland Stiel (Okotoks, B.C.) scored twice to lead the Spartans, while rookie Charis Wardrope (Maple Ridge, B.C.) added the other marker for TWU. The Vikes had goals from Emma Dewit, Sopie Fingarson, and Emma Skalik. The tie moves TWU to 9-2-3, while Victoria moves to 4-6-4.
 
TWU's Hannah Miller (Langley, B.C.) made two saves in the draw, while Victoria's Kayley Lidstone made three saves.
 
AS IT HAPPENED
TWU rookie Charis Wardrope opened the scoring with her eighth of the campaign to give the Spartans a 1-0 lead in the 13th minute of play.
 
The Vikes responded quickly with goals by Emma Dewit in the 17th, and Sophis Fingarson just over three minutes later to give Victoria a 2-1 lead half way through the opening frame.
 
Stiel, who had just subbed into the match gave the Spartans a spark as she found the back of the net twice in five minutes, 32nd and 37th, to put Trinity Western back on top, 3-2.
 
The Vikes Emma Skalik got the equalizer for Victoria to tie the match in the 73rd minute.
 
Both teams would have quality chances down the stretch, but neither were able to break the deadlock.

"Disappointed in the result, but really pleased with some of the young players that got valuable minutes this weekend. We battled tonight and created more than enough chances, but we needed to be more clinical."
 
NOTABLE
• The Spartans are 28-18-6 lifetime against the Vikes.
• Trinity Western has not lost to Victoria since October 20, 2018, with the Vikes winning 2-1.
• Entering the match TWU was fifth in CW in scoring with 29 goals for, while Victoria was 12th with 11 goals for.
• Prior to tonight's match TWU had locked in second spot in the Canada West Pacific Division, Victoria was needing points to keep their post season hopes alive and currently in fifth place in the Pacific Division.
 
UP NEXT
The Spartans will have a week off before hosting the CW quarterfinal match against the Prairie three team, which is still to be determined.
