LANGLEY, B.C. – Trinity Western wrapped up their 2022 preseason campaign, capping things off with a 0-0 draw against Simon Fraser at the Chase Office Field on Saturday.

With this result, the Spartans end their preseason run at a 2-2-3 record.

TWU opens their Canada West campaign on Aug. 26, beginning their week with a match against Victoria (Aug. 26, 7 p.m.), then UBC (Aug. 27, 7 p.m.).

AS IT HAPPENED
With no goals scored in the match, the Spartans still managed to create significant scoring opportunities. TWU outshot SFU 17-5.

Hannah Miller (Langley, B.C.) was only forced to make two saves on the night.

NOTABLE
• TWU's all-time record against SFU moves to 0-1-1.
• The Spartans also led the match in corner kicks, ending the match at a 9-1 tally.

QUOTABLE
TWU Head Coach Graham Roxburgh
"A bit of a sense of disappointment from me. Again, we dominated in possession, territory, and shots, and we were only going to get scored on if they countered a mistake from us. Credit to SFU, they defended well and made it stingy on us.

"Back-to-back games left us a little tired mentally. I didn't think we were very sharp in our decision making even though our work-rate was excellent. I thought Kylie Hendricks (Maple Ridge, B.C.) was superb when she came on and gave us a lift in the midfield. Charis [Wardrope] (Maple Ridge, B.C.) and Holland Stiel (Okotoks, Alta.) did well holding the ball up as well.

"In the end, those are games you want to win – especially on our home park. We've had a good preseason, and now we have four or five hard days of intentional work to be ready for our season opener."

UP NEXT
The Spartans begin their Canada West campaign at home on Aug. 26th against UVIC (7 p.m.).
