LANGLEY, B.C. – Trinity Western's long-awaited rematch with UBC led to a 2-0 loss at the Chase Office Field on Saturday.
An intense bout between the Spartans (1-1-0) and Thunderbirds (2-0-0) would tilt in favour of the visiting side after goals from Danielle Steer and Nisa Reehal.
Sophie Crowther (New Westminster, B.C.) led the Spartans with four shots on goal, but the Spartans couldn't get past UBC keeper Sarah Johns.
AS IT HAPPENED
UBC would be the only team to strike in the first half of action as third-year forward Nisa Reehal was able to get behind TWU's back-line for the only marker of the half. The Spartans were able to test Johns early, outshooting the Thunderbirds 11-5 as Johns was forced to make five saves.
Both sides would have their chances to change the script of the match, but it was the Thunderbirds who would put an end to TWU's efforts as Danielle Steer would beat an outstretched
Hannah Miller.
QUOTABLE
TWU Head Coach Graham Roxburgh
"Two good teams, both had good chances, but the difference was that they were clinical. We didn't bury our chances, some which were cleared off the line. Their keeper was unbelievable tonight – she probably kept them in the game. Credit to them, they defended really well.
"It was a tough battle, and it was always going to depend on who took their chances."
