SPARTANS FALL TO OREGON STATE

CORVALLIS, Ore. – Trinity Western's preseason opener on Saturday held a 4-1 loss to Oregon State at the Paul Lorenz Field.

TWU's lone goal was scored by Tilly James (North Vancouver, B.C.) as this result puts the Spartans at an 0-1-0 record to start their 2022 preseason campaign.

The Spartans will be given a five-day break before coming back to the Chase Office Field to take on Western Washington.

AS IT HAPPENED
With the ball being kicked off, the script of the match bore two goals that were scored in the first four minutes. It was the Beavers who opened the scoring in the third minute.

Still, only one minute and seven seconds later, a ball from team captain Sierra Halldorson (Winnipeg) found the feet of Tilly James who would slide it home, tying the match at one apiece.

OSU went on to score three unanswered goals, ending the match at a 4-1 line.

QUOTABLE
TWU Head Coach Graham Roxburgh
"Really pleased with our first effort – disappointed to give up some silly goals. Having said that, I thought Oregon State had a lot of quality and athleticism to give us everything we could handle, but we generated good chances too. Disappointed to lose a game 4-1 when we had some clear-cut chances that could've made it 3-3 or 4-3. Good teams bury their chances, and they were clinical tonight.

"We did generate chances. I thought there were some good individual performances. Olivia Kranjcec (Okotoks, Alta.) was outstanding at left back, and left forward in the second half. She generated chances and had to work really hard against our top-quality opposition. Tilly James had a really good game – she gave us good energy. Some young kids came on and showed they could have a good university career too. Sophie Crowther (New Westminster, B.C.) was lively, and generated our best chances. Kylie [Hendricks] (Maple Ridge, B.C.) was good in the midfield. Our captain, Sierra [Halldorson] played really well with lots of heart and courage.

"In the end, we're disappointed we gave them two or three goals that could've been avoided, we have to learn from that. Good start, just disappointed with the outcome."
