LANGLEY, B.C. – Tilly James (Vancouver, B.C.) has been recognized as the Canada West women's soccer Athlete of the Week after a stellar two-goal performance over UBC Okanagan on Saturday.
James opened Saturday's scoring going in the 35
th minute, reeling in a pass from
Sierra Halldorson (Winnipeg) in the 18-yard box, taking a touch, then curling the ball into the top-right corner from a sharp angle.
The second-year defender put Saturday's game on ice with an 89
th minute marker. The goal would stand as James' second of the day, and fifth of the season.
James has been a focal point in both TWU's attack and defensive schemes, combining her pace, work ethic, and ball-playing ability to tie
Charis Wardrope (Maple Ridge, B.C.) for the team's lead in points with seven (5G, 2A). James is tied for fifth in the conference's goals and points categories.
The No. 2 ranked Spartans currently sit at 6-1-1, slotting them in the Pacific division's second spot behind UBC. TWU hosts Calgary (Sept. 30, 7 p.m. PT) and UNBC (Oct. 1, 5 p.m. PT) at Chase Office Field this weekend. Calgary will be one of TWU's biggest tests of the season with the Dinos only trailing the Spartans by three points in the conference standings.
