SPARTANS WRAP UP 2023 CAMPAIGN WITH SIXTH-PLACE FINISH AT VANCOUVER SEIRES

VANCOUVER – Trinity Western's 2023 Canada West 7s campaign came to an end on Saturday, with the Spartans going 1-1 at the Vancouver Series, hosted by UBC at Thunderbird Stadium.
 
The Spartans defeated Regina 37-0 in their consolation semi-final bout as Hope Nystrom (Langley, B.C.) scored three tries, leading the way for TWU. Danika Dool (Chilliwack, B.C.), Abigail Johnson (Kamloops, B.C.), two tries from Ava Van Santen (Abbotsford, B.C.) filled out the remainder of the scoring in the victory, and a conversion from Matisan Kelly (Lilooet, B.C.) filled out the remainder of the scoring in the match.
 
The Spartans fell to Lethbridge in the fifth-plaace match, ending their 2023 campaign with a 24-0 result.

Teams are awarded 15 points for a tournament win, 12 points for finishing 2nd, 10 points for finishing third, 8 points for finishing fourth, 6 points for finishing fifth, 4 points for finishing sixth, 2 points for finishing seventh, and 1 point for finishing eighth.
 
The University of Alberta (January 20/21) Victoria (February 11/12) and British Columbia (March 3/4) are the hosts for the three Rugby 7s tournaments in 2023.
