SPARTANS TIE VIKINGS IN CROSS-BORDER FRIENDLY

BELLINGHAM, Washington – In their final pre-season match of 2023, the Trinity Western Spartans tied the NCAA Div. II Western Washington Vikings 0-0 Saturday night at Harrington Field in Bellingham, WA. With the tie the Spartans finish the 2023 pre-season at 1-2-1.

Trinity Western had the better of the chances against Western Washington as the Spartans outshot the Vikings 15-5 in total shots and 6-1 in shots on goal. While the Vikings had a 5-3 edge in corner kicks.

Fifth-year keeper Hannah Miller (Langley, B.C.) played the full 90 in net for the Spartans and made one save to earn the clean sheet. While the Vikings Abigail Trengrove, 72 minutes, and Grace Wales, 18 minutes, split the goalkeeping duties for Western Washington, with Trengrove making all six saves for WWU. TWU second-year forward Sophie Crowther (New Westminster, B.C.) led all players with four shots, with two on target.

The Spartans and Vikings were tied 0-0 after the first 45 minutes of play, with TWU having an 11-4 edge in total shots and a 4-1 edge in shots on goal.
TWU is now 2-5-2 lifetime against WWU.

UP NEXT
This coming Friday TWU will kick off Canada West conference play against the UNBC Timberwolves in Prince George, B.C., before traveling to Vancouver to play the UBC Thunderbirds on Sunday afternoon to complete the opening weekend of conference play.
