CALGARY, Alberta – The Mount Royal Cougars scored in extra time of the final half to earn a 1-1 tie with the No. 7 Trinity Western Spartans Sunday afternoon at Mount Royal Stadium Field in Calgary, Alta. The draw marks the first points the Cougars have taken off of the Spartans in their history in Canada West, and only the second goal MRU has scored on TWU. With the tie, Trinity Western moves to 2-1-2 in Canada West, while Mount Royal improves to 0-3-2.
Fifth-year keeper
Hannah Miller (Langley, B.C.) made five saves for the Spartans in the tie, while the Cougars' Torrrance Langdon made four saves.
AS IT HAPPENED
The Spartans got their loan goal of the match on a penalty kick in the 41
st minute. TWU rookie forward Mansha Sidu (Surrey, B.C.) had the ball on the right side of the penalty are where she was tripped by MRU's Isabella Chirico. The Spartans third-year midfielder
Olivia Kranjcec (Okotoks, Alta.) took the PK and put the Spartans up 1-0.
The Cougars evened the score in extra time of the second half. MRU's Tamara Djurisic sent a corner kick just short of the box to Kareena Kassam. Kassam one-timed the ball through traffic and past a diving Miller to tie the match at 1-1.
