SPARTANS FALL TO THOMPSON RIVERS WOLFPACK

LANGLEY, British Columbia – For the first time in program history the No. 7 Trinity Western Spartans lost to the Thompson Rivers WolfPack, as TRU prevailed 1-0 Saturday night at Chase Office Field in Langley, B.C. The loss drops the Spartans to 5-3-2, while the win moves the WolfPack to 4-5-2.
 
Juli La Rotta scored the lone goal of the match for Thompson Rivers.
 
TWU second-year keeper Yasmine Pahal (Surrey, B.C) made three saves in the loss, while Thompson Rivers' Cassandra De Amaral made seven saves in the shutout WolfPack win.
 
UP NEXT
The Spartans will now match up with the Fraser Valley Cascades for their annual home-and-home series on Friday, October 11 and Saturday, October 12. The Friday match starts at 5:30 p.m. (PT) in Abbotsford, B.C. with Saturday's game at 5 p.m. (PT) in Langley, B.C. Both matches can be seen live on Canada West TV.

AS IT HAPPENED         
The Spartans and WolfPack both had quality chances in the opening half, but neither team was able to find the back of the net. TWU had a 6-3 edge in total shots and a 4-1 edge in shots on goal.  The Spartans also had three corner kicks.
 
Thompson Rivers opened the scoring in the 70th minute. WolfPack forward Berea Woldeyes sent a ball through the Spartans back line to a sprinting Juli La Rotta who got into the box and sent the ball over TWU's Pahal and into the top left corner of the Spartans net to give the WolfPack a 1-0 lead.
 
For the remainder of the match each time had chances in the offensive end, but the match was a highly defensive midfield battle.
 
NOTABLE
  • The Spartans outshot the WolfPack 11-8 in total shots, and 7-4 in shots on goal.
  • TWU had an 8-1 edge in corner kicks.
  • The Spartans defeated the UBC Okanagan Heat 2-1 Friday night, while Thompson Rivers tied Fraser Valley 2-2 in Abbotsford, B.C.
  • Last weekend the Spartans beat Mount Royal 1-0 in Calgary and lost to Victoria 1-0 in Victoria, B.C. 
  • The Spartans are now 12-1-1 lifetime against the WolfPack.
