VICTORIA, British Columbia – The Trinity Western Spartans opened the University of Victoria "Keg Cup" tournament with a 3-0 loss to the UBC Thunderbirds Saturday morning in Victoria, B.C. The match was the first time the Spartans and Thunderbirds have met since the 2023 women's soccer national championship.
TWU trailed 2-0 at the end of the first half.
QUOTABLE:
TWU Head Coach
Graham Roxburgh.
"Disappointed that we ended the first half so poorly, and passively and corporately we didn't deal with some situations that led to their goals. The second half was a better effort. Unfortunately, when you press to get back in the game we make ourselves more vulnerable."
"With sharper finishing and more decisiveness, we probably could have generated more chances and
made it a really good game. We had some good performances from some of our players, but corporately we could have done more."
UP NEXT:
The Spartans will now play the loser of Victoria and Fraser Valley in tomorrow's bronze match. Game time is set for 10 a.m. at Centennial Stadium in Victoria, B.C.
