SPARTANS WIN BULA RUGBY 7S

DELTA, B.C. – Trinity Western's women's rugby sevens opened their 2024-25 season by winning the two-day Bula Rugby 7s tournament at John Oliver Park Saturday. 

Due to another team pulling out of the event late, the tournament ended up being a two-team head-to-head competition with the Eastman Warriors Rugby Club. The teams ended up playing a five-match series, with TWU winning all five games, earning victories of 45-0, 47-7 and 31-0 scorelines on Friday and 35-10 and 33-5 scoreslines on Saturday. 

Ava Van Santen (Langley, B.C.), who recently represented Canada at the U20 Transatlantic Quad Series in Wales, was named the Tournament MVP after amassing 71 points, including 11 tries and eight conversions over TWU's five contests. 

The Spartans had seven different try-scorers and nine different point-scorers.

NEXT UP
TWU won't play a formal competition until the Spartans 7s event Nov. 23 at the Willoughby Community Park Stadium. TWU competes in the Canada West Sevens Series in the spring, with tournaments in Edmonton (Jan. 25-26), Langley (Feb. 7-8) and Victoria (Mar. 1-2).
