THIS WEEK IN SPARTA

LANGLEY, British Columbia – The Trinity Western Spartan teams continue to ramp up as This Week in Sparta has nine teams in action. Men's and women's soccer hitting the second half with games on the road, men's rugby is on the road as well, with women's basketball and women's volleyball getting their preseason underway, men's and women's hockey continue their preseason, and men's and women's cross country are on the road again.

  • The Spartans host the York Lions, Victoria Vikes and the TRU WolfPack for the Athlete Women Empowered Classic tournament this weekend at the Langley Events Centre.
  • This weekend's game is the first preseason game of the season for the Spartans.
  • The Spartans open Canada West play at home against the Victoria Vikes on October 31.

  • The Spartans open Canada West play against the Mount Royal Cougars on October 4-5 in Calgary.

NOTABLE
  • The No. 6 Spartans will have their rematch against the Mount Royal Cougars (2-4-1) and the Victoria Vikes (3-1-3) this weekend on the road.
  • Last weekend on the road TWU lost to the No. 1 UBC Thunderbirds 4-0 and defeated the UNBC Timberwolves 3-1.
  • Mount Royal split their two road games last weekend. Losing to the UBC Okanagan Heat 2-1 on Friday and defeating the TRU WolfPack 2-0 on Saturday.
  • Victoria had two 1-1 ties on the road last weekend, Friday against the TRU WolfPack, and Saturday against the UBC Okanagan Heat.
  • The Spartans are currently 6-0-2 lifetime against the Cougars.
  • In their previous meeting this season Trinity Western tied Mount Royal 2-2 on September 14 at Chase Office Field in Langley, B.C.
  • The Spartans are currently 30-19-7 lifetime against the Vikes.
  • Earlier this year TWU tied UVIC 1-1 on September 13 at Chase Office Field in Langley, B.C.

  • The Spartans are at the end of their eight road games to start the season this weekend in Prince George, B.C. against the UNBC Timberwolves (1-7-2).
  • Last weekend the Spartans split their two road games, losing 3-2 to the Alberta Golden Bears, while winning 1-0 against the MacEwan Griffins. Both matches were in Edmonton, Alta.
  • The Timberwolves went 1-1 in two road games last weekend. UNBC lost to Mount Royal 2-0 in Calgary, and defeated Saskatchewan 3-2 in Saskatoon, Sask.
  • The Spartans are 12-2-8 lifetime against the Timberwolves.
  • After this weekend the Spartans will play five of their last six games at home at Chase Office Field in Langley, B.C.

  • The WolfPack Classic tournament will be the first matches of the 2024-25 preseason for the Spartans.
  • Also competing at the three-day tournament are the: Thompson Rivers WolfPack, UBC Thunderbirds, Mount Royal Cougars, Fraser Valley Cascades, Alberta Pandas, Manitoba Bisons, and UBC Okanagan Heat.
  • TWU begins Canada West conference play on October 18-19 against the MacEwan Griffins at the Christenson Family Centre in Edmonton, Alta.
About Spartan Athletics
As official members of U SPORTS, the Spartans currently compete in 13 sports in the Canada West conference, including women's and men's soccer, volleyball, basketball, hockey, cross country, and track & field, as well as women's rugby sevens. TWU also competes as an independent team in men's rugby, as well as women's and men's disc golf. Since TWU entered U SPORTS in 1999, the Spartans have won 13 U SPORTS team championships and 32 Canada West team championships.
