THIS WEEK IN SPARTA

LANGLEY, British Columbia – It's another busing week for This Week in Sparta with eight teams competing. At home in conference play will be men's soccer and women's hockey with their season opening weekend, as well as men's volleyball with the annual Blue Team Cup and women's basketball in a lone non-conference Thursday match-up. On the road, there will be men's hockey with their conference opening games, women's soccer continuing conference play, and the men's and women's cross country teams in Oregon.

  • The Spartans finished preseason at 0-2. Alberta finished 2-4 in preseason play.
  • TWU is currently 2-10 lifetime against Alberta.
  • In their last meeting, the Spartans lost 4-3 in a shootout to the Pandas last season at home in Langley, B.C.
  • TWU finished the 2024-25 season at 14-12-1-2-1-1 and in third place in the West Division. Alberta finished last season with a record of 24-3-3-2-0-1, placing them in first place in the East Division.
  • The Pandas are the defending CW champions. The Spartans lost in the CW quarterfinals two games to one against the Manitoba Bisons.

  • In their last CW match, the Spartans lost 2-1 to the Saskatchewan Huskies in Saskatoon, Sask.
  • Last week, the Thunderbirds defeated the Thompson Rivers WolfPack 2-0 and the UBC Okanagan Heat 5-0 at home in Vancouver, B.C.
