THIS WEEK IN SPARTA

LANGLEY, British Columbia – This Week in Sparta, six teams are in action, with women's soccer and men's rugby being the only teams playing all their games at home. Women's basketball is on the road for pre-season games, while men's and women's hockey and men's soccer continue conference play with a home-and-home series. And on Saturday, it will be senior night for men's soccer.

NOTABLE
  • The No.6 Spartans are currently in second place in the Pacific Division at 8-2-0, while the No. 1 UBC Thunderbirds are unbeaten are in seventh place at 10-0-0, and the Victoria Vikes are in third place at 4-3-3.
  • Last week, the Spartans defeated the UNBC Timberwolves twice in Prince George, B.C., 5-0 on Friday and 4-0 on Sunday afternoon.
  • Last weekend the UBC Thunderbirds remained unbeaten with a 4-0 win over the UBC Okanagan Heat and a 2-0 win over the Thompson Rivers WolfPack at home in Vancouver, B.C.
  • The Spartans are currently 19-33-12 lifetime against the Thunderbirds. TWU's last win over UBC was 1-0 (6-5PK) in the Canada West final on November 3, 2023. Earlier this year the Spartans lost to the Thunderbirds 1-0 on August 23 in Vancouver.
  • The Victoria Vikes enter the weekend after defeating the Thompson Rivers WolfPack 3-1, and losing to the UBC Okanagan Heat 2-1 in Victoria, B.C.
  • The Spartans are currently 33-20-7 lifetime against the Vikes. TWU has faced Victoria twice already this season. Wining 2-1 on August 22 in Victoria, and 3-2 on September 12.

  • TWU is currently 0-8 lifetime against UBC.

  • The Spartans are 1-2 in preseason play, MRU is 3-3 in preseason play, Regina is 3-0 in preseason play, and the Griffins are 2-3 in preseason play.
  • TWU begins Canada West conference play on Friday, October 24, in Victoria, B.C., against the Victoria Vikes and Saturday, October 25, at home in Langley, B.C., against the UBC Thunderbirds.
