OKUMO BREAKS TWU LONG JUMP RECORD, QUALIFIES FOR NATIONALS

SPOKANE, Wash. – Trinity Western's Oke Okumo broke an 11-year-old Spartans long jump record and earned automatic qualification for the U SPORTS Championships with a jump of 7.30m to finish first at the Whitworth Invitational at The Podium.

Okumo bettered the previous record of 7.28m, which was set by James Linde Feb. 21, 2014 in Edmonton. Okumo's jump of 7.30m puts him second in the Canada West long jump rankings and tied for sixth in the U SPORTS rankings.

Erica Udoh continued her record-breaking run in weight throw, setting a new TWU mark for the second time in two weeks with a throw of 16.38m. She shattered her previous mark, which she set Feb. 1, by exactly one metre. Her throw puts her second in Canada West and ninth in U SPORTS.

Sheleena Wiley also had a strong day, finishing first in long jump with a mark of 5.91m. Her jump puts Wiley fifth in CW and ninth in U SPORTS.

On the track, the Spartans men's 4x200m team, which featured Rui Ramsay, Danny Earles, Alexandre Antoine and Jonathan Toews, ran a time of 1:29.27, putting TWU sixth in Canada West and 12th in U SPORTS.
